WRITE!
WRITE! it is a lettering design to be interacted with live that I designed between 2021 and 2022. An alphabet that has become a game, to compose, invert and discover in infinite variations. An apparently simple and elementary idea, but capable of igniting the mind of each of us, bringing us back to the same light-heartedness and lightness of when we were children and, why not, even as adults.
The message
The playful aspect and the search for a dreamlike dimension that has always accompanied my works allows me to always see beyond things, imagining that from every single form new ones can be born and in infinite variations, like in life, new possibilities of experience or in nature, from a single molecule . A word, an object, an emotion can change every day or be perceived through a new point of view, independently of us or, if we commit ourselves, through our will. Many games are also used in therapies to help people suffering from neurological diseases as Alzheimer's or others, to stimulate their mind and memory.
THE TECHNIQUE
After many sketches and drawings on paper, I imagined an evolving alphabet, 3D letters to touch and interact with live, which I created by painting them with my usual "mosaic" style onsmall wooden cubes.
FROM LETTERING TO ARTWORKS
From WRITE! lettering was also born the READ! series of artworks, paintings on wood made in different formats and, above all, different combinations of letters and words. Paintings in which, even if born from a completely different process and research, one perceives a link with one of the Masters who inspires me the most, Alighiero Boetti. > Discover the artworks
HOW WRITE! IS BORN
WRITE! it's a lettering design I created between 2021 and 2022. I was looking for a typeface that represented myself - it didn't have to follow a trend or, as is usually the case in commissioned work, the rightly pleasing a Client. I made several, but I always remained tied to the two-dimensionality and to those patterns normally dictated by the creation of a lettering. The letters remained drawn on many sheets, too many.Once I closed the sketchbook or turned off the PC, my letters turned off with them. I wanted to make them come alive and it was then that I imagined an alphabet dynamic, 3D letters to touch and interact with live, which I created by painting them with my usual "mosaic" style on small wooden cubes. Each cube corresponded to a letter, one on each side. When I finished it, I realized that the alphabet had become a game: the letters could be modified, inverted, turned upside down, looked from above, below, sideways, forming constructions or new words, to be read backwards or in their correct sequence and with a different range of colors every time.

COME NASCE WRITE!
WRITE! è un lettering design che ho ideato tra il 2021 e il 2022. Cercavo un carattere tipografico che rappresentasse me stessa: non doveva seguire una tendenza o, come normalmente accade in un lavoro su commissione, il compiacimento giustamente di un Cliente. Ne realizzai diversi, ma restavo sempre legata alla bidimensionalità e a quegli schemi normalmente dettati dalla creazione di un lettering. Le lettere rimanevano disegnate su tanti fogli, troppi. Una volta chiuso l’album da schizzi o spento il pc, le mie lettere si spegnevano con essi. Volevo renderle vive e fu allora che immaginai un alfabeto dinamico, lettere tridimensionali reali, da toccare e con cui interagire dal vivo, che realizzai dipingendole con il mio consueto stile a “mosaico” su piccoli cubi di legno. A ciascun cubo corrispondeva una lettera, una per ciascun lato. Quando lo terminai, mi accorsi che l’alfabeto era diventato un gioco: le lettere si potevano modificare, invertire, capovolgere, guardare dall’alto, dal basso, di lato, formando costruzioni o nuove parole, da leggere al contrario o nella loro corretta sequenza e con una gamma di colori ogni volta diversa.
Un’idea apparentemente semplice ed elementare, ma capace di accendere la mente di ciascuno di noi riportandoci alla stessa spensieratezza e leggerezza di quando eravamo bambini e, perché no, anche da adulti. Molti giochi sono inoltre utilizzati in terapie per aiutare gli anziani e le persone che soffrono di malattie neurologiche come l’Alzheimer, per stimolare la mente e la loro memoria.
Sono sempre stata affascinata dalle forme pure, da tutto ciò che mi permetteva di creare e costruire qualcosa, dai colori e dalle loro infinite variazioni e accostamenti. L'aspetto ludico e la ricerca di una dimensione onirica che da sempre accompagna i miei lavori mi permette di vedere sempre oltre le cose, immaginando che da ogni singola forma ne possano nascere di nuove e in infinite varianti, come nella vita nuove possibilità di esperienza o come in natura, da una singola molecola. Una parola, un oggetto, un’emozione possono cambiare ogni giorno o essere percepite attraverso un nuovo punto di vista, indipendentemente da noi o, se ci impegniamo, attraverso la nostra volontà.
Da lettering è nata anche la serie di quadri READ!, dipinti su tavola realizzati in diversi formati e, soprattutto, diverse combinazioni di lettere e parole. Dipinti in cui, anche se nati da un procedimento e da una ricerca completamente diversi, si percepisce un legame con uno dei Maestri che più mi regala ispirazione, Alighiero Boetti.
